CVEC Exemption — Who is Exempt from the Student Contribution?
CROUS scholarship holders are automatically exempt — free certificate on cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr
The CVEC (Contribution a la Vie Etudiante et de Campus — Student Life and Campus Contribution) normally costs €105 per academic year. However, certain categories of students are automatically exempt and receive a free exemption certificate instead.
Who is exempt?
| Category | Exemption |
|---|---|
| CROUS scholarship holders (amounts 0 to 7) | Yes — automatic exemption |
| Refugees with official status | Yes |
| Beneficiaries of subsidiary protection | Yes |
| Asylum seekers (application in progress) | Yes |
| Stateless persons | Yes |
| Work-study students (alternants) | No — must pay €105 |
| Non-EU students without CROUS scholarship | No — must pay €105 |
How to get your free exemption certificate
- Go to https://cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr
- Enter your student number (INE/BEA)
- Select 'Je suis boursier CROUS' (I am a CROUS scholarship holder) or 'Je beneficie d'une protection internationale'
- Your exemption is automatically verified against CROUS databases
- Your free attestation is generated immediately
- Download and print the attestation — note the unique attestation number
- Present the attestation number at university administrative registration
Important: Even with an exemption, you must still go to cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr to generate your attestation number. Without this number, enrollment is blocked — the exemption certificate and the paid certificate work the same way at the registrar's office.
